Chronic Tacos Mexican Grill (Vancouver)

It was “one dollar off” Burrito Mondays at Chronic Tacos Mexican Grill on West Broadway in Vancouver, and I went in to grab one and catch the final minutes of Game Three of the Stanley Cup Finals between Chicago and Tampa Bay.

Yes, you can watch sports here like a pub or lounge but you order at the counter like a fast food joint. For your filling, you could choose from chicken, veggie, fish, pork, and shrimp but I went with their Marinated Grilled Steak (known as the Carne Asada). And of course, after selecting your meat, you then have your burrito topped with rice, beans, various toppings, veggies, and sauces. Now, you could “make it a combo” for an extra C$3.49, giving you chips, Salsa, and a regular pop. Or, if you’re really hungry, you could “make it a meal” for an extra C$5.00, and you would get the combo items plus rice and beans. Since I was staying to watch the final minutes of the hockey game, I chose to “make it a combo” and got chips with Salsa and a pop. Anyway, since you order at the counter, you also pay right away and also tip at the time you order, and then you’re given a tray with your items and you seat yourself. Oh, the pop is self-serve too.

Marinated Grilled Steak Burrito – C$7.50 on “Burrito Mondays”

There were actually many tables available and I was able to catch a bit of the game. The burrito was great, very filling actually. I enjoyed the steak. It tasted delicious. It was nice and quiet too (given that there weren’t many dine-in customers at that time), allowing me to eat peacefully at my table. (None of that Hanok Korean Restaurant nonsense – though I should reiterate it wasn’t the restaurant’s fault but the diners’ fault because they all insisted on talking very loudly.) And hey, with a delicious burrito and a hockey game to watch, I would say Chronic Tacos was an excellent food stop. I suppose if I were in the area frequently, I would stop by regularly for a quick bite. Too bad I’m not in the area much.

From what I understand, Chronic Tacos, established in 2002, is an American chain that has numerous locations in California. In Canada, there are just two locations, though: This one here on West Broadway in Vancouver, and the second one on 10th Street in New Westminster.
