Red Robin Gourmet Burgers (Burnaby)

Was in the Burnaby/Coquitlam area on a rainy Friday afternoon so I stopped by Red Robin Gourmet Burgers behind Lougheed Mall for a quick bite. I’d been to the Red Robin on Robson Street before several times, but not to this location. Though it’s a bit of a walk, it’s still pretty convenient to access if you’re taking transit and you get off at Lougheed Town Centre SkyTrain station.

K lives in the area, actually, and so he met up with me there so that we could eat and chat. I was still going through the menu and hadn’t decided on what to get, but K was hungry and ordered almost upon receiving the menu. I hastily chose their new Prime Chophouse Burger and a glass of water. K ordered the same thing, except he wanted chicken in the burger instead of beef.


The burger came with a huge onion ring placed on top, and also Red Robin’s famous bottom-less steak fries. (You can get as much fries as you want during your stay, and even the metal container holding the fries acted as a symbol…there was no bottom for that container. If you lift that container up, all the fries fall onto your plate. 🙂 )

Inside the burger were horseradish-sauteed mushrooms, crispy onion straws, and Provolone Italian cheese. I thought it was a delicious burger and liked the sauce they used too. Wasn’t a fan of the steak fries, though, and didn’t take up their offer of bottom-less fries.

This location was huge, and there were parents with kids (because the teachers are still on strike three weeks into the school year) as well as those who were probably taking their lunch breaks from work. They have a few TVs around too, so during the chat and food, I was able to look up and see Michelle Stafford (formerly of The Young and the Restless) on General Hospital. (Hmm….I never knew she had gone to GH. I know Y&R has hired someone else to play Phyllis while she’s still in that coma… but with Stafford on GH, I guess she really isn’t going to return as Phyllis Newman anymore…)

When the bill came, K was surprised that he was charged a dollar more than me. Apparently, having the chicken on the burger instead of beef cost an extra buck. Oh well.
